St. Francis Xavier's Church



St. Francis Xavier's Church
Built in 1849, by Reverend Farve, a Frenchman, who later became Professor of Malay in Paris. It stands on the site of an earlier Portuguese church built in 1553. The Gothic twin towered church is dedicated to St. Francis Xavier is well-remembered for his missionary work spreading Catholicism to South East Asia in the 16th Century..

1. St. Peter's Church
Only at St Peter's Church, one can find Malaysia's only life-size alabaster statue of Lord Jesus before the Resurrection.

The square, similar to the central square in Lisbon, Portugal, is the main attraction at Portuguese settlement.
6. Governor's Museum (Seri Melaka)
Seri Melaka, built by the Dutch, was the official residence and office of the Dutch Governor of Melaka when the Dutch ruled Melaka during the 17th century.
7. Christ Church
The Dutch legacy is evident in this strawberry-coloured church of Dutch architecture. The handmade pews date back some 200 years.

9. Splitting Rock, Besar Island
This was the rock where a legendary warrior, Panglima Lidah Hitam (the Black Tongue Warrior) demonstrated his powers by using his tongue to crack the rock into two.
10. Tranquerah Mosque
Prominent in its Sumatran architectural grandeur, the mosque, one of the oldest mosques in the country is unique and bears testimony to the fact that Islam had its rightful place in Malacca almost 600 years ago
